Table Mountain Seven Summits

Leader: Don Jepson 17 August 2018 Table Mountain Seven Summits

After rain delayed the start by a day, we set off from Kirstenbosch in light rain and cold weather conditions for the second conquest of Table Mountain’s seven highest summits – starting with Fernwood Peak (1003m) then Maclear’s Beacon (1086m) followed by Fountain Peak (1050m). By now the weather conditions had improved and after descending to Echo Valley we bagged Blinkwater Peak (989m) and then via Kitchen Ravine to St Michaels Peak (917m) where we had lunch. Descending directly down to Echo Valley again we continued to Waaikoppie (933m) and finally on to Junction Peak (919m) where we had late afternoon tea. Our descent was via Nursery Ravine arriving back at the cars at 6pm. We logged 18.6 km which compares to the 18 km we recorded on the previous Seven Summits hike in November 2016, when we started and ended in Camps Bay (doing the peaks in reverse).

Unfortunately the delay of one day meant that only half the original number of eager ‘seven-summiters’ were able to take part in the hike – the final party size was nine, the same number as on the first hike in November 2016 and 4 of those ‘seven-summiters’ were on this hike.
