Noordhoek Peak & Panorama Route

Leader: Neil Brathwaite 12 July 2016 Noordhoek Peak & Panorama Route

Sixteen members and one prospective member assembled at the dam parking site at 09h00: Neil Brathwaite, June Good, Jeremy Thornewill, Colin Pritchard, Dina Segal, Jenny clover, Alec Dose, Mary Bock, Rosemary Keen, Sandra Griffiths, Sue Orr,Graeme Hill, Stephen Craven, Mercia Benzekein, Sally Swart, Lindsay Hooper and Doreen Gower.

We tackled the climb in a clockwise direction with a fresh south-east breeze at the start. Stephen was sweep. He is very good at this, counting the numbers at strategic places. On the Crassula edge we stopped to look at the view over Noordhoek beach and Kommetjie. There was cloud in the way but as luck would have it there was a Brocken spectre. Great. (The sun was behind us and the cloud in front.) We made good progress up to Noordhoek Peak. Still a stiff breeze but a suitable tea spot a little way down on the western side. I pointed out the wave cut terrace above Kommetjie. The sea level was much higher about 5mya and again 1.5 mya. We picked up the Panorama path which was very exposed to the wind and not very distinct after the fire. A diversion to the Black (Verreaux’s) Eagles viewing site was rewarded by a sighting. Then the ups and downs and a stroll back to the dam where we had a pleasant lunch break.

Thanks to all for the company and support.

Neil Brathwaite
