Brian Lambourne led a beginners’ climbing meet at Silvermine East on 12 January. There were nine participants who were each issued with a 5-metre length of old climbing rope. The Club provided harnesses, carabiners, belay devices and helmets to those who did not have their own. Participants first learned how to tie the figure-of-eight and clove hitch knots, and belay safely. Thereafter there was an opportunity to climb, belay and abseil using the top rope that had been set up. Special thanks to Armelle and Richard who helped with safety, and to Stefan for the photos.
