Cape Point – Venus Pool

Leader: Alec Dose 14 February 2017 Cape Point – Venus Pool

Nineteen members and two guests gathered at the Visitor’s Centre in the Cape Point Section of the TMNP in good time, so we set off earlier than planned!   A strong south-easterly wind was blowing which strengthened as we headed up the gentle ascent to Kanonkop. As it was cool the party all moved quickly.  Kanonkop was to be our tea spot but the usual sheltered area was windy, nevertheless some shelter was found behind rocks and bushes. We took the coast path, rather than the road to Venus Pool, which was sheltered by the wind being diverted over the mountains behind. Most of the party enjoyed a swim in the warm water before a leisurely lunch. We then elected to follow the coastal path to Buffels Bay from where we returned to our starting point arriving 6 hours after starting.
