Rain was forecast for the day and even though we set off in a light drizzle we hoped the conditions would improve. After a promising start we were again subjected to rain combined with a strong wind and sought shelter in a cave just below the southern summit of Skoorsteenkop. We had an early tea break while we regained our rather wet composure but when the rain set in again we decided that we were not out to test our survival skills and headed off down the way we had gone up – which was the quickest route back to the cars!
