On Sunday 4 March 2018, a harmonious group of 12 MCSA members and a guest ascended Babylon’s Tower, amidst lively chats. To the great relief of the leader, everyone managed well on the steep fynbos ridge. Reaching the summit, we were rewarded by magnificent views with some haze in the direction of Pearly Beach, where a bush fire was raging.
Although not of great height, Babylonstoring remains one of my all-time favourite mountains in the Cape. It has all the qualities of a great mountain experience: a standalone mountain, no other mountain to compete with, a clearly defined summit, some challenging terrain along the way, great views in all directions and unspoiled fynbos vegetation.
I look forward to next year when I will be visiting the Cape once again and hopefully meet up with fellow club members. Should any club members wish to go on Alpine Hikes with the DAV (Deutscher Alpenverein), they are welcome to contact me via email.
