Due to the rain, the Two Ledges place took place on 1 May 2018, rather than 26 April 2018. Brian Lambourne led a party of 8 from Tafelberg Road up to the Saddle, along the Knife Edge, and then up the Ledges route. For safety, a rope was used on the C pitch.
The party then traversed across to Carrel’s Ledge .This sensational traverse is named after the alpine guide, Jean-Antoine Carrel, who was famous for being in the race against Edward Wymper to make the first ascent of the Matterhorn. The ledge was wide enough that the party did not have to go too close to the edge until they reached a point known as “Mauvais Pas”. At this point, one has to step around a block on a narrow shelf in order to reach the other side.
Once everyone had successfully completed the traverse, the party headed for Maclear’s Beacon. From Maclear’s Beacon the group split up, some descending by Platterklip and others by Cable Car.
