Klaassen’s Buttress

Leader: Penny Brown 5 March 2020 Klaassen’s Buttress

Nineteen of us set off at 07h00 from Constantia Nek in warm weather, climbed up the Corner then via the lovely Agatha’s Gulley. We kept a reasonable pace, which was rewarded with a pre-tea break at the overhangs before The Camel! On the side path towards Klaassen’s Buttress, we found and cut down at least ten pine trees of different sizes, one quite big, much to the delight of the hackers in the group (undoubtedly the ‘A team’!).
We traversed the lower Klaassen’s Buttress ledge stopping at the cave, then wound our way round the buttress and up to the overhang just below the peak. We had tea in the shade, with magnificent views over Orange Kloof into the distance. Some used the opportunity to scramble to the beacon above for fun and even better views!
From there we wandered back to the main path, De Villiers Reservoir and down the bridle path and arrived back to the cars by about 13h00 as hoped.
Thanks all for a lovely day on the mountain and for the photos afterwards especially Charmaine’s which I have included here.
