We all had two things in mind, get away from the virus and have fun on the mountain, and we achieved both! The 13 of us set off in ideal hiking conditions and were soon at the start of the traverse. A short distance further on, after rounding Llandudno Corner, we stopped at the accident scene where Brian Lambourne was severely injured in May last year. Brian relived the experience that few would survive to tell the tale.
Not to be deterred, we ventured on and were soon engrossed in the challenges presented by the traverse over varying terrain. Our tea stop was in the shade just before the start of the final section. The awkward step-over presented the usual challenge that could only be overcome in one way – get your feet and hands in the correct position, and then ‘walk on air’, as Sally put it!
Then followed the steep ascent of Victoria Ravine which was fortunately still in shade. With time in hand, we made our way onto Separation Buttress and enjoyed lunch from the best vantage point in town! Our descent was via Llandudno Buttress and we arrived back at cars soon after 3pm.
