Kim and Chris Kruyshaar led a meet over the long weekend in March in the mountains above Suurbraak. Chris wrote: The group met at our house in Suurbraak at lunchtime on Saturday. After a swim and setting up camp we went for a walk to Grootkloof on the NE side of the town. We had a good swim up the kloof from the weir to a beautiful circular pool below a strong waterfall. After the river swim we hiked to a viewpoint of the kloof and then home via a jeep track. The day was concluded with a social braai in good weather.
On Sunday, we had an early start, all packed up for an overnight hike. The weather was stable and not too hot, but we were threatened with cloud on the mountain. We hiked to the high viewpoint of the Grootkloof gorge for a snack and tea stop. Fortunately the cloud lifted and we were able to get onto the third terrace (900m) without a problem.
We hiked along the ridge to the night camp site at the source of the Cascade-pools River. After pitching our tents, we walked to the view of Tierkloof gorge overlooking the Somerset’s Gift farm. We had a good supper in windy cool conditions. On Monday we got going just after 8. The wind died in the early morning, and we woke to a nice sunny day. We spent the morning hiking back down the mountain with two swim stops on the way. We got back to Suurbraak at lunch time. After a swim and a meal, everyone headed back to Cape Town.
