Our route covered a seldom visited part of the mountains above Hout Bay. The weather conditions were superb with little wind and a low blanket of cloud covering the valleys for most of the day while we enjoyed the warm sunshine above.
We followed a circular route, only completing the ‘circle’ after 10.5km which incorporated ‘Blockbuster Ridge’ and the three summits of Skoorsteenkop.
We followed Blockbuster Ridge, off-path, from east to west maintaining a high level line that provided some easy rock obstacle encounters and plenty of distant views. A tea break was enjoyed along the ridge.
After merging with the path towards Skoorsteenkop we ascended each of the three summits which are all within about 3 metres difference in height but with a valley in between them.
We enjoyed lunch on the summit overlooking Baviaanskloof before making our way down the south facing side of Skoorsteenkop arriving back at the cars at 2:45pm
