Lions Head was the chosen destination and hopes were high for a wind sheltered day of climbing in Autumn.
Unfortunately the wind had other ideas!
Bundling up warm,18 intrepid climbers, with experience ranging from 3 weeks to 30 years, gathered at the tea cave on the Clifton side of Lions Head.
Eager climbers divided into small teams and chose routes. Cold temperatures and a biting wind added a grade at least. But a few pitches were climbed by all parties and enjoyed despite the weather.
Clifton Crest (15) proved the most popular route naturally but ascents were made of Rainbow Crag (13), Aquanaut (15), Cub’s Cuff (15) and a Juggernaut/Wild Things (16) combo.
Abseils were done safely and the sun now at the tea cave was welcome.
Thanks to the leaders for their generosity with time, equipment and knowledge and to the novices for their psyche! It was enjoyable to see the numbers of female climbers joining on this meet – 7 out of 18 participants.
