The day dawned sunnily and cool, allowing for comfortable hiking and best 360 degree views. Seven hikers, from as far as Fish Hoek, braved the traffic to join Suzanne at Meerendal farm just beyond Durbanville. The route circumnavigates a low hill at easy gradients, allowing for constantly changing views of the Peninsula and the inland mountains. Our beloved Table Mountain and its two sidekicks were pleasingly seen from a full angle seldom possible from other routes. After the tea stop we began the ascent of Dorsberg (hill) at the top of which the planned lunch was postponed due to a rather fresh wind. Although not much fynbos, there were a few instances of interesting flora, for example little orchids. Having enjoyed lunch in a wind-free spot next to a cycle track where a few cyclists whizzed past downhill we finished off the meet with hot drinks at the farm restaurant and headed back home.
