Our 3-day adventure was reduced to a 2-day adventure last minute due to unfavourable weather conditions. We started our journey on Friday, making our way through the Jan du Toit’s Kloof valley, mostly following the beautiful river since the surrounding area was extremely overgrown. We reached Overhang Camp where we had lunch and packed our day packs.
The real adventure began as we wound our way up the beautiful, pristine valley. Wading through the crisp and crystal-clear pools and navigating our way between and over boulders and rocks, trying to find the best way through. We swam at all the big pools along the way. Of course, we couldn’t miss the chance to slide down the must-try bum slide, with some of us going down multiple times. Even with the summer sun on our side, we had to turn around and head back 90% into the valley to camp before the sun set.
We had a perfect night at Overhang camp with no wind, and the next morning revealed that the weather was actually favourable. However, since we had already ventured into the kloof, we decided to spend the morning relaxing by the river, reading, and exploring the surrounding area before heading back down the valley. We reached our cars in the mid-afternoon, with happy hearts, scratched legs, and ready to embrace 2024.
