Thirteen of us set out from Theresa Avenue at exactly 07h00 in a strong southerly wind using the firebreak path to avoid the initial steep slog on concrete. After the odd unplanned excursion, we reached the first pitch in good time having navigated Roll Over Rock employing individual disciplines. Everyone managed the pitch with aplomb and we enjoyed our well-earned beverage break in the usual overhang.
Nicely rested and reinvigorated we set out for the top. Most of the group chose the tricky chimney route managing it well with varying degrees of elegance. The next two exposed pitches were also readily tackled by the whole group with relative ease. Regrouping before ascending the uninspiring slope to the final chimney, some proudly admitted they enjoyed an adrenalin rush in parts on the way up. Whilst not mandatory, nearly the whole group opted to do the chimney which as always, proved refreshing. Some had to be persuaded to not do it a second time.
As it was still mid-morning we decided to go to Postern for lunch via Rendezvous cave. After a long leisurely break we democratically chose to descend via KP the top of which we reached circuitously via Wobble Rock on Postern’s southwestern side. Three of the party advanced down speedily by arrangement whilst 10 of us in the principal fragment comfortably reached the cars just before 14h00.
