Nine of us set off from Newlands Forest parking area at 8am. We took the scenic route off the Woodcutter’s path to the contour path. Here we stopped at the “Wimpy” for a breather and breakfast.
We continued Southwards, along the contour path towards Kirstenbosch and at the sign at the big rock we turned down onto the very pretty path with many mauve Plectranthus flowers.
At the intersection we took the left fork and Sally took us up her secret path to visit the grave. It was gratifying to see the Sugarbird project in action, removing alien vegetation, and the work that is being done to protect the bark of the indigenous trees.
Before returning to the cars, we had lunch at the peaceful atmospheric ruins.
We returned to the cars around 12.45, having had an enjoyable day in perfect weather.
Led by Mercia Benzakein, thanks to everyone.
