All you need is optimism and perhaps a flask of hot tea… With that in mind 13 of us set off to attempt the very misty, shrouded heights of Constantia Corner. There was some discussion around wet rocks and lichen but we opted to do Agatha’s Gully and were rewarded: the west side of the buttress seemingly had not yet collected too much condensation. Proceeding with caution across the step-over and up various scrambles, only four took on the chimney pitch: they certainly made it look easy.
The mist lent its own charm to the hike but as we reached the top of the buttress, it was clearly much wetter. Tea was taken in a huddle at the customary overhang. We then decided not to attempt the Klaassenskop Traverse in those conditions.
Our route home proceeded past the Camel to the dam and jeep track, where the party divided, some taking the road option. Everyone was safely down by 13:30.
Thanks to all for your cheerful participation, & Gawie le Roux for his photographs.
