Seven mountaineers met at the Chapman’s Peak parking on Saturday morning to climb Noordhoek. This is a short and fun route above Hout Bay with some excellent scrambling. The weather was also perfect for this route, and with the early start we got to see a crazy sunrise.
After hiking along the contour path for a little bit we arrived at our takeoff point and started heading up the lower portions of the route. We followed the crest of the ridge up to the major rock bands where we scrambled up a few B grade steps. Eventually we arrived at the traverse line and the crux of our route.
After a short snack break the participants put their harnesses on and started the crux section of the route. While the crux is only 3 meters, the drop to the side is huge. A rope was used on this section and the next section on the steep sandy scramble. The sensational final scramble up the ridge was the perfect way to top out.
We had lunch at the picnic spot overlooking Noordhoek before starting the descent back to Chapman’s peak drive.
Thank you everyone for an amazing day out in the mountains.
