The Cape Town Section arranges up to 200 group outings every year, from day walks or rock climbs to trips of several days. These meets help you discover new routes and mountain areas around Cape Town and further afield, in the company of members who know them well.
While members who lead meets are experienced mountaineers, they’re private volunteers, not qualified mountain guides, so joining any meet is entirely at your own risk. All activities are non-commercial in nature.
Check the Calendar to see what meets are coming up. They usually take place on weekends, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
These range from relaxed, easy walks with lots of botanising to more adventurous scrambling and fast-paced walking off paths. Summer brings kloofing and swimming in remote river valleys, with winter delivering chances to explore snow-covered peaks.
Activities include bouldering, sport climbing and ‘trad’ (traditional) climbing at all levels, from easy to more demanding multi-pitch country routes. Apart from the bouldering walls at our own Clubhouse, MCSA members also have full access to the bouldering walls at the University of Cape Town.
The Cape Town Section’s Rock Climbing Sub-Committee is also involved in replacing the old bolts on the Cape Peninsula’s sport climbing crags and with interfacing between climbers and landowners.
