Route 5, Tweede Tol, Bain’s Kloof

Leader: Suzanne Smith 14 June 2017 Route 5, Tweede Tol, Bain’s Kloof

Those of us who have been hiking in our mountains for many years will have walked here freely in years gone by. Unfortunately, this route had officially been closed off to day-trippers for possibly the last 20 years. And here we were, officially, on Route 5 at Tweede Tol, Bain’s Kloof. A delightfully varied circular route of about eight kilometres, over interesting terrain. A good spread of uphill, level and downhill, past Cederberg-type rock formations, squeezing through short narrow rock passages, quiet mini forests, a few easy rock scrambles, and of course, changing views of the surrounding and distant mountains.

Being MCSA members we also removed a few sizeable hakea on the way. And then there was the river! Lunch at the waterfall with its two pools that would beckon on a summer’s day. The route along the river revealed more enticing pools in full sun until it ended again at the campsite at Tweede Tol, where no-one seemed to be in a hurry to leave for home!
