On Thursday 1 March 2018 Brian Lambourne led a party of five up Muizenberg Crag Direct. First climbed in 1986, and graded F1 according to the old South African grading system, Muizenberg Crag Direct is a classic climb up the Muizenberg Buttress. F1 is roughly equivalent to 13 in the newer grading system.
There was a minor incident during the first pitch, as Claudia fell, but was caught safely be the rope. Stefan was knocked over whilst trying to assist her, but fortunately neither came to any harm.
The party chose to avoid the unpleasant chimney move required in the second pitch, and instead took the more exposed, but more enjoyable, route, ascending the nose.
After a delightful third pitch, the party the party descended by way of Muizenberg Corner and went for some well deserved liquid refreshments.
A special thanks to Stefan for the photographs and Brian Watts for assisting with the belaying.
