Constantiaberg – NW route

Leader: Don Jepson 18 June 2021 Constantiaberg – NW route

After postponing the date of the hike we had ideal weather conditions in which to enjoy the fine views that this route has to offer. Unfortunately some of the original party was not able to join us and we ended up with just four, but still thoroughly enjoyed the outing.

The NW route, starting from the Baviaanskloof waterfall, is a sustained 800m ascent, mainly off-path which makes it interesting and different. The views are wide-spread during the entire ascent and remain with you on the way down if one takes the road, as we did for the descent. When we reached the nek above Tokai we turned west onto the Skoorsteenkop path and then descended back into Baviaanskloof from that side.

Our tea stop was at the Constantiaberg beacon which we reached soon after 10am – lunch was enjoyed just before descending the slope below Skoorsteenkop. We were back at the cars by soon after 2pm.
