We assembled at Kloof Nek, in weather which was thankfully somewhat better than the forecast. We started with a nice stiff warmup to Kloof Corner. Then along the contour path to the Silverstream route. A few hundred metres up, we crossed over onto the start of the Left Face B route. This is a nice variation for avoiding the hustle and bustle of Platteklip Gorge.
From here we proceeded to unravel the mystery. A brunch stop at the overhang high up on the long ledge was most welcome, and very pleasant. Then up and over, to the top of Blind Gully. The down-scrambles in Blind Gully are really great. It’s one of my favourite ways down this part of Table Mountain.
We made our lunch stop on the slab below the Blinkwater Needle. It’s a place that never fails to impress. Everyone was inspired and very enthusiastically scrambled up to “thread the needle”!
