The day dawned with no wind and a clear sky – we were soon stripping off excess clothing and looking forward to a summer’s day in the middle of winter. Lekkerwater Traverse is a very scenic route and the weather lined up perfectly. We encountered lots of compulsory ‘showers’ along the traverse and had to be careful on some of the wet rock – but nothing a well weathered mountaineer cannot handle!
Tea was celebrated in one of the overhang caves along the traverse and then followed the not so easy ‘walk’ up Grove Walk, the exit route to the top of the mountain.
Once on top we headed towards Judas Peak and enjoyed a relaxing early lunch at the beacon.
On the descent we were down to single layers of clothing and soaked up the warmth of the sun. The 18 of us arrived back at the cars at 2:30pm after covering 8km and 810m of total ascent.
