11 members braved the mountain after one of the worst storms Cape Town ever has experienced, and they were right, because the weather turned out to be perfect: sunny with a light breeze to keep you comfortable. The hike started on the jeep track at Silvermine South towards the waterfall, which was spectacularly big. The jeep tracks had some deep pools and erosion channels, but the small footpaths stood up amazingly well to the storm. The river feeding the waterfall was overflowing and had to be crossed, either barefoot or with wet feet and shoes. The hike went to Berties Balcony where there was a tea break. Thereafter the hike continued via the helicopter landing spot to the Kleintuinkop ridge where we walked towards the amphitheater. Thereafter came a long descent on dead man’s path. The party divided in 2 groups: the first group was mainly walking, the second group mainly talking. After 4 hours we were back by the cars.
A most enjoyable hike, mainly because of the weather, the mountain and the company.
