On Saturday, November 4th, 13 adventurers set out for Turret Peak on the MCSA’s Wydekloof servitude, our weekend retreat. With packed bags (some heavier than others), we began our ascent up the picturesque valley, graced by a flowing river from the winter rains. During our break below the waterfall some of the group even chose to swim,. Our strenuous climb, or should I say bushwhack, up the steep gully was rewarded with breathtaking views. We reached our campsite near the “Mushroom Turret” in the afternoon, leaving ample time for further exploration for those eager.
The night was enchanting, characterized by a tranquil breeze and a sky full of stars.
The following morning, after breakfast and coffee, most of us ventured to the summit of Turret Peak, while two brave individuals ascended The Mushroom Turret above camp. Atop the peak, we enjoyed expansive views stretching to Cederberg Tafelberg (Cederberg) in the north and the towering Groot Winterhoek Peak in the south. We then trekked back to camp through varying vegetation with beautiful flowers, making mental notes of unexplored areas yet to be discovered.
Finally, we packed up and embarked on the “easy” descent down the mountain, which was dry and somewhat overgrown. With shaky legs upon arriving at our vehicles, we said our farewells.
