A group of 14 set off along Pipe Track from Kloof Nek at 8am in the morning.
After roughly 45 minutes we turned into the Blinkwater path, then again left towards Grotto Ravine, slowly making our way up in the steep terrain. We had our tea break on the upper part of Grotto, enjoying the views onto the traverse line, the sea, and the surroundings.
Once on the traverse we walked-scrambled happily along. The section around Fountain Ravine had dried out nicely after the rains two weeks ago, and there was very little water in the watercourse itself. Everyone managed easily to scramble up along the tree and out of Fountain Ravine, accessing the second part of the traverse.
Reaching Cairn Ravine, the group decided to rather walk up to Fountain Ledges instead of continuing straight through the Poort. After a lunchbreak in beautiful sunlight on Fountain Ledges, we started making our way down India Venster. During the descent, the sky started turning dark at the horizon and a thunderstorm came up. We saw the lightening hitting the bay and Signal Hill, obviously coming closer as we were counting the seconds between lightening and thunder. Some big raindrops came down when we reached the cars around 2:45pm.
Thank you everyone for an awesome day out in the mountain! Thank you for your enthusiasm and support.
