We had the perfect day to enjoy the NW ridge of Constantiaberg – not much wind, cool on the way up and warm on the way down.
Our start was at 100m in Baviaanskloof Hout Bay. Rising 800m above is the western beacon of Constantiaberg, our destination. We followed the NW facing ridge on an off-path route passing pristine fynbos along the way with never ending views, enhanced by the wonderful low slung cloud effects around us.
We had some keen hackers in the party who did not allow any of the few remaining hakea to dominate the landscape. Our well earned tea stop was enjoyed about 200m below the beacon.
After digitally recording the 360 degree views from the top we commenced the descent via the tar road that leads from the mast, amidst chatter and the satisfying scenery that continued to feast our eyes. Once on the Vlackenberg trail path, we set our course back to the start, breaking for a leisurely lunch along the way.
The 16 of us reached our cars at about 2:30pm.
