The ideal weather conditions and dry rock enabled us to enjoy the ‘blockbuster’ challenges to the full! 18 of us set off at 07:30 for our adventure into a relatively unknown part of the mountains to the north east of Skoorsteenberg. They are nameless on the maps, so I have called them ‘Blockbuster Ridge’ because of all the amazing block shapes that one encounters along the ridge and ‘AirBnB’ for the parallel ridge to the north that has a large enclosed room – the bed and breakfast however have to be provided by the visitor!
We tackled Blockbuster Ridge from west to east and had tea on the highest point which provided far reaching views. From the end of the ridge we made our way down to the vlakte below and approached AirBnB from the east. We then followed the ridge to the end overlooking Hout Bay valley. The last part provided some interesting passages and rock scrambling options.
After soaking up the views once more we returned along the ridge and finally down to join the Vlakkenberg trail path. An early lunch spot with a view was selected on the way back and we were back at the cars at 2pm after completing a circular route.
