The morning was very clear and crisp when twelve of us set off on our ramble. As soon as some ascent was encountered, warm layers were peeled off to get our dose of vitamin D. We climbed up Kleintuin and headed toward Kalk Bay Peak on a path circuiting the Amphitheatre. Finding some shelter from the wind, we had our tea break in a sunny spot among the rock formations.
After a short stretch to the Peak we continued to the view point and beacon overlooking the harbour. The descent was enriched by the sighting of a falcon on the hunt. A detour was made to check out the “Easter Island” rocks, where vegetation is recovering after recent burn. We proceeded to Nellies Pool and then had lunch at the mouth of the cave on St James Peak before returning to the start.
We found SAPS personnel at the car park where, unfortunately, two of the group had had their cars broken into & cash had been stolen from one. More concerning was that Andile, the car guard, had been attacked by three men when he responded the the alarms being set off. He was stabbed in one hand, his cell phone, money and keys were taken. The incident had happened at about 11 am.
