Diagonal and Tranquility Cracks

Meet Reports 28 November 2024 Diagonal and Tranquility Cracks

Leader: Trever Stacey

Ten of us set off from Theresa Avenue at 07h30 on a lovely morning. We welcomed three of the group who were walking with the Cape Town section of the MCSA for the first time. The calm start belied the fact that in patches during the day the wind was rather fierce but in general the weather was perfect. We wondered whether Porcupine Ravine watercourse would be flowing given the fairly heavy rain we had experienced over the previous two days, but it was dry. An excursion into Valken Cracks was added to the itinerary and proved to be a suitable spot for tea. Thereafter we followed the Apostle Path and took a further detour to Tranquility Cracks. Although a little early we decided that the sheltered spot overlooking one of the world’s fabulous views would be too good to miss for an early lunch. After discussion we decided to have a “lunch half hour” instead of a “lunch hour” and take the other half later in the day at the overhang overlooking Slangolie Ravine. We took Corridor Ravine down to the contour path ablaze with pink pelargoniums just before the overhang where we consumed what was left of our lunches. Half the group hurried off after that to try and avoid the traffic home to the south. The rest of us arrived back at Theresa Avenue at about 15h00.
