Our hike began very early at Constantia Nek with a group of eight enthusiastic hikers. We scrambled up Constantia Corner, enjoying the early morning coolness. Our first brief stop was at Camel Rock, where we took in the stunning views before continuing our ascent.
We then hiked to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain, where we took another break to rest and appreciate the panoramic scenery. After 3.5 hours of brisk hiking, we reached the upper cable car station restaurant. Here, we enjoyed a well-deserved (almost) halfway break, replenishing our supplies. By this point, we had covered 10 km and gained 1001 meters in elevation.
The second half of our hike took us along the Apostles Trail. Despite the higher temperatures, the trail’s beauty and the fact that there were more downhills than uphills made it a pleasant experience. As we approached Llandudno Ravine for our descent, a lovely cool breeze accompanied the incoming clouds, providing a refreshing respite.
We safely reached Ruyteplaats 8.5 hours after we started, having completed a total distance of 22.5 km and an elevation gain of 1346 meters. The hike was a challenging yet rewarding experience, filled with breathtaking views and memorable moments. Thank you to everyone who joined, the assistance with arranging lifts and having cars parked at both sides, sharing beautiful pics and making great memories.
