Kalk Bay Peak

Leader: Sally Swart 11 March 2025 Kalk Bay Peak
A group of twelve participants set off from Silvermine Gate 2 on a blustery morning, several (welcome) degrees cooler than had been experienced in recent days. At the bridge we took the “Fisherman’s Path” and jeep track towards the False Bay ascent of Kalk Bay Peak. Some interesting rock formations on the ridge tempted us to an early tea stop, where one member proposed a short exploration of some clefts in a ridge higher up. The party managed to get divided for a short time, while investigating a grove of yellowwood trees between the rocks, before descending to the usual path. The area had been burnt not long ago, which facilitated way finding.
The push up to the peak followed. We did not linger too long there in the windy conditions, before descending via Spooks Cave and the Crassula path, where Ivor felled an alien. A second tea was taken before returning to base by 12:30, finding cars in good order and Andile in attendance. Thanks to all for their company, and Natalie Thiart for her stunning photos.
