Eight (there were seven cancellations) of us set out at 07h30 from Theresa in cold but calm conditions. We used the clear air to check out the planned route while warming up on the concrete road. The slog up the lower section of Diagonal was intentionally slow-paced and set the tone for the rest of the hike. We easily reached the pitch below Jubilee/Barrier cave, and as it was very wet, the pitch was carefully managed by all, many having a light shower in the process. We soaked in the spectacular views whilst enjoying our beverage break in the cave. The traverse around the bases of Barrier, Valken and Kasteels buttresses was spectacular as usual and all done before the sun crested the mountain. The Barrier waterfall had a fair display, encouraging some slo-mo photographic practice. Easily climbing the initial pitches up lower Postern, we reached the nek with Wood Buttress, where, after some discussion, it was decided to take the scrambling route up Postern. This was competently managed by everyone with varying degrees of elegance and willingly assisted by the two strong men. We took the scenic route up to experience the wonderful wobble waypoint en route to a leisurely lunch in the yellowwoods atop Postern. We exited through Rendezvous cave to the Apostles path and the top of the KP descent. An advance party of one hurried down, confirming his safe descent soon after 14h15. The remaining principal fragment took it easy on the way down with less frequent breaks required than in the summer heat. We were all safely back at the cars at 14h55.
