Excitement built as the passage out grew narrower and narrower, culminating in a small hole we had to squeeze through in the hope of seeing daylight again. We spent some time in Annie’s Hall, admiring the roots pushing through and the sparkling droplets clinging to the cave roof, before heading back above ground.
We then made our way toward Echo Valley, but with a little extra time on our hands, we decided to give White Dome Grotto a go. Here, everyone experienced even tighter squeezes than before, and it quickly became quite crowded! After emerging from the darkness, we headed into more darkness — aka Boomslang Cave — and were surprised (considering the recent fires) to find that some bats had returned for their winter roost. Even more surprising was encountering a few other MCSA members meandering around underground. After a quick hello, we did a short loop around the bat chamber and crawled out through the North entrance before finally making our way back down to the cars.
