Our group of Mountain Club members made quick work of the Pipe Track approach to Spring Buttress, no doubt buoyed by the welcome surprise of calm, clear conditions despite forecasts predicting gale-force winds.
Rather than committing to the sustained B-grade slog up the Slangolie side of the buttress, we opted for a more varied and engaging line, linking pitches from both the Traverse and Step-Over routes to gain the top. The variation provided enjoyable movement and steady technical interest throughout.
In true MCSA fashion, the team was a healthy mix of newer and very experienced members, with strong collaboration and mutual support through the more technical sections. The group moved efficiently and confidently, making a comfortable ascent to the Twelve Apostles Trail.
The rock quality and exposure delivered exactly what Spring Buttress is known for, and spirits remained high as we descended Woody Ravine back to the vehicles.
All in all, a fantastic bite-sized adventure on a classic Camps Bay line.
