A bright, warm day greeted sixteen participants at Silvermine East. As always, it was good to welcome some new faces among the stalwarts.
We set off along the jeep track, noting that the waterfall was not flowing, even though there was water at the ford. With Maiden Peak to our right, we pressed on up to the ridgeline of Kleintuinkop. Temperatures were already making an impact, but an early tea stop in the shaded Amphitheatre provided respite.
Exiting the Amphitheatre, we crossed Spes Bona valley and were soon at our next stop – the peak! (33 KALK BAY: 515m ) A pleasant breeze had come up by that time. We took in the views from the second trig beacon (88 KALK BAY X: 507m), which can be seen by seafarers in False Bay.
Almost the final excitement of the morning was our lunch stop, at 11:30 (possibly a new record)! A cool spot among huge boulders and contorted Yellowwoods provided a welcome, air-conditioned pause.
There were plenty of spring flowers to delight us. The ever-fascinating rock formations were a feature of the descent, as was a field of yellow Moraea. Many thanks to all for their interest and cheerful company on this ramble.
