A tiny but very special group of six set off at 7am on Saturday morning in perfect weather conditions.
Among the many variations on Kasteels Buttress, we chose a spicier line, approaching the Buttress B variation via the lower section of Kasteels Gully.
We moved easily up the dry Valken Ravine watercourse, pausing for a short break beneath the overhang. The first C-graded scramble was handled with ease by everyone, and from there the route unfolded in a joyful sequence of scrambles, guiding us to – and up – the actual Cups and Saucers section.
After a 15-minute tea stop, we continued along the conventional route, enjoying the last scrambling section to the top, where a strong breeze welcomed us. Via Kasteel’s Poort, we made our way back to the cars in roughly 3,5 hours.
Thank you all for a beautiful morning full of fun scrambles and great company.
