What a perfect weather day, hot and windless – ideal for many swims in the calm Witte River.
Our group of 9 members did start this time with the compulsory swim from Tweede Tol – the water being cool, not cold. Once again we kept mainly to the right hand bank, swimming happily when necessary. We took note of the rock face that we traversed last time to avoid a swim in that day’s weather, but happily swam through the pool below it this time.
It was a pleasant surprise to see many bushes of the bright indigo nivenias in flower along the bank.
When we arrived at our tea-time pool we found it in full deep shade this time, so we sat in the sun for ‘tea’ while some members swam there. When Suzanne cut her tea-time apple a bee headed straight for the juicy flesh. Talk about opportunistic!
Once again, having ascended the side kloof to access the hole-in-the-roof waterfall, the members had fun standing, sitting and splashing in the tiny pool below the waterfall, taking many photographs of the fun. (See video too). The waterfall had definitely reduced in strength since our last visit but was still nevertheless gushing. We spent an hour there, having lunch and just relaxing.
Our return route to Tweede Tol was spent swimming through every possible pool. At one point there was a little cascade down which we had fun sliding into the pool below (video).
After our swim through that final pool, we relaxed on the rocks, having a snack and drying off a bit before heading up to the parked cars.
The route, all inclusive, at a relaxed pace, had taken us 5 hours.
