The Mystery of Agatha’s Gully Part II, in which a younger-than-usual Tuesday group met to expose a few myths while making it look easy.
Firstly, dear readers, clues to the actual weather are not always in the forecast. Luckily for us, this meant a fine day at the start, with dry rock to boot. Predictably, the approach was muddled by a trail of overgrown vegetation, but not impassable. The views onto the gully were, as ever, breathtaking, the overhanging cave still secretive, mossy and dark… and the ‘loo’ seat still up. So far, so good.
Proceeding up via the short pitches, we arrived at the chimneys, which proved a breeze to climbers in the party. Then there was not much left to solve before coming to a conclusion after the last scrambles of Constantia Corner.
Following a welcome pause for tea, four successfully took on the Camel. A brief circuit on Klaassenskop top followed, and, as the weather seemed to be coming in, we started our descent via the jeep track and shortcuts. By 12:45, all the party had returned to the start. Thanks to all for their good company.
