Twelve members and a guest got stuck in to the various property maintenance tasks on the Convenor’s list for the work party held at Steenboksberg on Saturday 12 November.
Self-appointed labourers used brand new loppers and machetes with enthusiasm to clear the path approaching the shelter, which always gets overgrown after the winter rains. Workers also cleared the path up to the the long drop.
Constant gardeners cleared vegetation to re-establish the firebreak around the shelter, and make the ruin area a little more user-friendly. Water-carriers lugged heavy buckets up to the long drop, emptying their contents into it so that the bio-enzymes could do their own work there. And stonemasons crafted a sort-of-flat rock ‘table’ in the camping area beside the river.
Some members stayed on to enjoy a fine summer’s evening camping by the river after their day’s labours.
