Thirteen of us set out at 07h00 from Theresa in a gale force SSW in the hope that we would have some protection closer to the mountain. A wind direction change to the south did give us some respite on the ascent but we had plenty billowing nevertheless. Whilst a rope was offered as security on the C & S pitch, no one requested it and everyone managed the pitches easily. We had our beverage break at the top of the pitch just before 09h00. A couple who had been tailing us, passed through during our break. He heavily adorned with much alpine gear and she inappropriately roped up.
After the break we completed the Kasteels Buttress B route with no special events with the awkward pitch well managed by all. Bracing ourselves for what was to come, we braved the summit and were treated to an impressive blow with some seriously staggering gusts. Once safely at the top op KP, it was patently crazy to visit Valken for lunch so we opted to leave it for another day. After a meal break just below Breakfast Rock, we descended comfortably, reaching the cars just after noon.
