As some members may know, the Worcester Section took over running and maintaining Du Toitskloof Hut in December 2024. Worcester Chairperson, Jaco Keller, has written about these upgrades and encourages all of us to visit the hut and enjoy what it has to offer.
Those of us who visited the Du Toitskloof hut years ago, will remember that it was always a very dark and cold hut inside. With the lights that have now been installed in the hut, the entire space is illuminated, giving it a much warmer feeling.
The bunk beds that were stacked three high, have been changed to a maximum of two, making it safer and also helping the hut to feel more spacious inside.
The oversized tables that used to take up almost all the space in the hut have been made smaller, offering more living space.
The two fireplaces inside the hut always provide a lovely atmosphere on cooler evenings.
The area around the swimming pool has been cleaned and restored to how it looked years ago. Nothing better than cooling off there on a scorching hot day in the mountains.
A project has been started to label indigenous trees with small nameplates so that we can learn to recognise and protect them.
Du Toitskloof Hut is so close and accessible to all of us and is truly a gem in the mountains that deserves regular visits. We encourage all members to come and stay in the new and improved hut to see for yourself what it is like, and to explore the many areas accessible from here.
