Meet Leader: Lloyd Clark
After being postponed twice already, we decided not to let another questionable weather forecast get in the way of our long awaited outdoor climbing meet. Six climbers joined the meet at the Lower Silvermine Crag, and although we had to contend with intermittent drizzle throughout the day, the weather ended up being far better than expected.
The meet focused on sport climbing, with everyone managing to get two climbs in despite the damp conditions. Considering that most of the group were fairly new to outdoor climbing, this was a great result and kept spirits high throughout the day.
The biggest highlights were several climbers completing their first outdoor lead climbs and first lead belays. The day also provided a good opportunity to share basic outdoor climbing skills, climbing etiquette and safe crag practices in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Thankfully there were no incidents or near misses and the day ran smoothly from start to finish.
All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day out. The weather may not have played along completely but everyone left with smiles on their faces, new skills under their harnesses and enthusiasm for the next climbing meet.

As a beginner, I was a little apprehensive. Lloyd was incredibly patient, explained the safety procedures clearly and guided us through everything step by step. I never felt rushed or pressured, which made it much easier to relax and enjoy the experience.
What made the afternoon particularly special was Lloyd’s knowledge, patience and genuine enthusiasm for climbing.
He was not only a great guide but also a fantastic host, making the whole experience feel safe, relaxed and fun.
For a first-time climber, I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to rock climbing. I left Silvermine with a huge sense of achievement, a new appreciation for the sport, and most importantly, the feeling that I definitely want to do it again! Thank you Lloyd!
